What a let down. Here conservative Republicans were so close to respectability and even acceptance in polite society. In Prince William County, VA where I live, conservatives convinced themselves we’d come far from that time in the recent past when the WaPost described evangelicals (essentially another word for conservative Republicans, since there is considerable overlap among the two demographic groups) as “poor, undereducated and easily led.”

Instead of deporting everyone caught who is here illegally, the administration will drop deportation proceedings if the illegal has been here a long time (each day adding another 24 hours to the original border violation) or is elderly, pregnant, in school, responsible for other family member’s care and has a number of relatives or friends who are potential Democrat voters in 2012.

Sure enough, the Wall Street Journal reports the median value of “salaries, bonuses and long–term incentive awards” for the jefe’s of 350 large companies rose 11 percent last year, while the median age of their trophy wives declined 10 percent.

Has anyone drawn a connection to the Libyan conflict? Obama’s approval on Libya has been flagging. He’s been dithering on Khadafy. He doesn’t want him killed, but wants him to go… yet Khadafy’s been holding power and even making gains against the rebels. Having committed to supporting the rebellion in Libya, yet feeling the heat from the public for his decision to get involved, what is his most graceful way out of that morass? Wouldn’t the voluntary ceding of power by Khadafy fit the bill?

Social Security is about to go bankrupt. The President is correct in saying Social Security is not the cause of the deficit… but the decision under Democrat Administrations to eliminate the “trust fund” and “lock box” aspects keeping Social Security separate from the general fund of the US treasury IS a cause. Social Security might have remained solvent if it were not raided by prior administrations to fund their pet vote buying schemes!
